Free Film Screenings For Movie Fans

Free film screenings for movie fans as part of Enjoy Rugby Festival.

Rugby film buffs are in for a treat, as it's not just rugby matches that you'll be able to watch on the big screen during this year's Rugby World Cup. When tournament matches aren't being shown, the Rugby Fanzone and Village in the Old Market Place will be hosting a number of free-to-attend film screenings as part of the Enjoy Rugby Festival (12 September to 6 November). The series of films, which range from sports documentaries and dramas to children's films and family classics, are being shown with the support of Warwick Arts Centre, Birmingham MAC and the Film Audience Network.
It all kicks off on Saturday 12 September with a screening of Invictus (12A), an old-fashioned crowd-pleaser which is both a rousing sports movie and a testament to the nobility of Nelson Mandela.
Invictus boasts a finely controlled central performance from Morgan Freeman as Mandela detailing how South Africa's first black president used the 1995 Rugby World Cup to unite the black and white populations in his country. The free screening of Invictus starts at 7pm and finishes at 9pm with no booking required.
On Tuesday 15 September, Building Jerusalem will be shown, a theatrical documentary that charts the dawn of modern rugby with Sir Clive Woodward at the helm, culminating in England's glorious World Cup Victory in 2003. Combining exciting match action with news and 'behind the scenes' footage, Building Jerusalem tells the dramatic highs and lows through the eyes of those who were there: players, coaches and journalists including exclusive interviews with Jonny Wilkinson and Martin Johnson. The free screening of Building Jerusalem starts at 7pm and finishes at 8.45pm.
Other films to look out for during the festival include The Secret of Kells (U) on Sunday 4 October, Arrietty (U) on Sunday 11 October, Wild Tales (15) on Monday 15 October, Shaun the Sheep (U) on Saturday 17 October, Murderball (15) on Monday 19 October, Alice in Wonderland (U) on Monday 29 October and Back to the Future (PG) on Sunday 1 November.
Full details and timings of all the film screenings throughout the Enjoy Rugby Festival can be found in the free festival guide available from Rugby Visitor Centre, online at or by calling the Visitor Centre on 01788 533217. All the films are free to attend and there is no need to book - just turn up on the day.
